Using the volumeter, the relative amounts of O, given off by an aquatic plant under different conditions can be measured. During photosynthesis carbon dioxide (CO,) is taken in by the plant. To use a volumeter for detecting the oxygen given off by the plant, it is necessary to provide the plant with an adequate amount of CO2 This is done by placing the plant in a 1% sodi bicarbonate (NaHCO) solution. The NaHCO, will go through a chemical change and replace the CO, that the plant takes from the water. The O2 that the plant gives off as it carries on photosynthesis will be released into the air above the water. This will cause a volume change that will register on the volumeter. The temperature will be monitored in case the temperature increases to a point that enzymes in the plant are denatured, causing an immediate drop in the rate of photosynthesis. 63Explanation / Answer

Data: Two trails were held, one with the leaves at room temperature that is 23°C and one with the leaves at a temperature of 35°C.Each trail was conducted for 10 minutes each and the data was recorded and graphed.
Hypothesis: If plants are at lower temperature, the rate of photosynthesis would be more rapid.The hypothesis was supported because the plants have fastet rate of photosynthesis at low temperature according to graph.
Conclusion: Therefore, the rate of photosynthesis varies with the effects of environmental variables such as temperature, light, salinity, wind etc.
