Explanation / Answer
I would like to describe about Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease which destroys brain cells in the cerebrum. Plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are found inside brain cells.
The common symptoms are dementia, loss of memory, apathy, social withdrawal, depression, mood swings and delusions. The disease is caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. The most common risk factors include obesity, smoking, hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, diet lacking in fruits and vegetables, physical inactivity and head trauma.
The quality of life is affected to a great extent. The following tasks are affected
The disease is treated with choline esterase inhibitor drugs like donepezil, galantamine and rivastigmine. The drug meantime slows the progression of disease. Recently, the new drug verubecestat was discovered which prevents the formation of new plaques.
A number of alternative therapies are available for Alzheimer's disease like herbal remedies, acupuncture and homeopathy. But, I would not seek them because of their safety and effectiveness concerns.
