The Nature and Causes of Crime

This week has covered several theories of crime causation including Rational Choice Theory, Trait Theory, and the Developmental Theories; Life Course, Propensity, and Trajectory. Select one of these theories that you feel best describes why crime occurs, and write a well-constructed, one page essay (500+ words) explaining how this theory applies to crime and criminals. What causes criminals to act and therefore crimes to occur? The Trait Crime Theory

Over decades people have been engaged in criminal activities time to time . Therefore, societies and different cultures across the have developed measures to cumber the evil crime acts. Criminals were punished differently depending on nature of crime and society within which the crime was committed. It's evident that in any social setting crime ever goes unpunished regardless one's age, gender, and status. The trend of punishing criminals continues to eternity provided people engage in crimes, this explains why governments have courts and prisons as well. With mention crime , questions arise why people engage in criminal activities despite having knowledge on consequences likely to follow thereafter.Different, theories have been developed and formulated to explain why people engage in criminal activities they include rational choice theory, trait theory, and the developmental theories; life course, propensity, and trajectory as well.

The trait theory was mainly responsible for the one of the major cause that the people should to engage themselves in a crime. This theory can explains the human personality look in regard to crime and due to personalities. The personal traits include the way someone reasons, behaves, and perceive things as well (Eysenck, 2013). For instance, a student may consider and perceive taking fellow student pen as a crime while another consider it as luck. Moreover, the trait theory can be best explained by considering the following case. Two brothers Michael, and Robbert both are present in the 12 grade. The Robbert was manily characterized by trustful, honesty, calmness, respect people property and also a very social guy. However, the Michael is characterized by brutal-ness, antisocial, respect people's , untrustworthy, property and he is also a smart criminal robbing of his classmate's cash, and valuable items as well. The two brother have been raised parents who are well respected by members of society as they are believed to be strong and faithful Christians as well.

The Michael and robbers incident can explains clearly how the traits of an individual constitutes to one's tendency to engage in crime. It is a clear evidance that can be the regardless of Michael been raised in a strong Christian values holding family. The stable personality is usually inbuilt and can not be changed or tampered with.There exist stable personality aspect that drives and causes Michael to engage in crime. However, by developed upright habits ,non-criminal acts, and behaviors ,the stable personality(trait) that trigger one to commit crime belayed beneath the surface (Eysenck, 2013).
