Question
8. You wake up at 6 AM to start studying for your final exam, and while walking across the living room step on your roommate's "Singing Justin Bieber" doll (see figure below). The following things happen, but not in this order: a) you quickly pick up your foot b) your foot hurts c) your central nervous svstem is aware of Tustin's quitar jabbing into vour foot d) Tustin begins to sing "One less lonely girl". What is the order of events, (roughly) how long does it take each to occur, and why. Assume the following: Justin takes 500 ms to start playing his song; it takes 10 ms to synapse in the spine; you have excellent reflexes. (8 points)Explanation / Answer
THIS IS A REFLEX ACTION
These are the series of events that takes place in order
1. b) Your foot hurts
2. c) Your central nervous system is aware of justin's guitar jabbing into your foot
3. a) You quickly pick up your foot
4. d) Justin begins to sing "One less lonely girl"
These events takes for about few milli seconds to occur
If it takes 10 ms to synapse in the spinal cord, it takes another 10 ms(approx) to have reflex action (withdrawl of leg)
totally it takes 20 ms for this reflex action.
1. when foot hurts, the sensory receptors in the foot gives pain impulses to spinal cord through sensory neurone.
2. central nervous system is aware of justin's guitar jabbing into your foot. A reflex action starts from spinal cord, travels through motor nerve, to skeletal muscle.
3. You quickly pick up your foot.
It takes for about 20 ms (double of synapsing time) for motor activity.
4. Then Justin begins to sing "One less lonely girl". because it takes 500 ms to play.
