Assuming a walking speed of 3.0 mph, what grade should she set the treadmill at? 3. Bob, who weighs 200 lbs, has a VO2max of 5.200 L/min. He wants to exercise on a treadmill at 70% VO2max. a. Assuming a running speed of 5.0 mph, what grade should he set the treadmill at? Veronica, who weighs 140 lbs, has a VO2max of 38 mL/kg/min and a resting VO2 of 3.7 mL/kg/min. You, the exercise physiologist, want her to walk on a treadmill between 60 and 80% of her oxygen uptake reserve (V02R) 4. a. What is her target V02 range (mL/kg/min) for this range of intensity? b. Assuming a walking speed of 3.3 mph, what range of % grade will you tell her to set the treadmill at? Using the Prediction Equations to Determine Caloric Expenditure Bill, who weighs 70 kg, is cycling at a workload of 150 Watts. How many calories is Bill expending every minute at this intensity? 1.

Explanation / Answer

Answer 2.

The Bruce Treadmill test has 9 stages.

Stage 1 = 1.7 mph at 10% Grade
Stage 2 = 2.5 mph at 12% Grade
Stage 3 = 3.4 mph at 14% Grade
Stage 4 = 4.2 mph at 16% Grade
Stage 5 = 5.0 mph at 18% Grade
Stage 6 = 5.5 mph at 20% Grade
Stage 7 = 6.0 mph at 22% Grade
Stage 8 = 6.5 mph at 24% Grade
Stage 9 = 7.0 mph at 26% Grade

a)

Now, Molly has to a walking speed of 3 miles per hour. So, she should set the treadmill at stage 3 and 14% grade. Note that grade setting of treadmill has nothing to do with VO2max level.
