As you reflect on your experiences and knowledge gained throughout this course, I would like you to critically analyze and respond to the following situation Imagine that you have been hired as a consultant for the United Statesgovernment. Your task is to create a priority list of the top 3 initiatives that the government should fund with the primary goal of enhancing biosocial, cognitive andlor psychosocial human development for U.S.citizens. Based on your understanding of human development, what are the three most important developmental challenges that the government should address? Defend your selections and highlight their developmental significance. As you think about this question, you are encouraged to reflect on the various theories, milestones and challenges that individuals are faced with from conception to death. Then go on to provide justification for the areas you select by explaining the importance for human development within our modern society. Your answer should be three distinct paragraphs that state the initiative and provides a justification for your selection using developmental principles and theories, each paragraph should be 300 words or less

Explanation / Answer

The first challenge would be of integrating the society. The United States is a melting pot of various cultures, that is, it consists of individuals from every walk of life and ethnicity. Hence, the process of 'othering' is inevitably practiced by most, as it is always simpler to cold shoulder something different that doesn't quite attune with our crystallized schemas; and it is tougher to understand concepts as well as people who aren't from the same sect and follow different patterns of beliefs and/or value systems. The Government could implement an initiative wherein the social cognition, where the crux of cognitive biases dwell, could be tackled. These biases aid in the festering of stereotypes and beliefs that most begin to harbor and almost believe in. An initiative of such a nature could help in the assimilation and, thus, accommodating of the new belief system. By becoming more tolerant to the groups, the level and magnitude of hate crimes could see a drastic fall.

The next initiative that could be taken by the Government would be in collaboration with educational institutes all over, but not only confined to those as there are many adolescents who probably aren't engaged in schools. Delinquent and Mal Adaptive behavior is a common issue, which is prevalent in all societies, and it needs to be addressed with utmost care. Identity vs confusion, a stage in human development that one encounter during their adolescence, according to Erik Erikson. This stage is veneered by a constant state of flux, which manifests itself into behavior that don't adhere to the norms of the society, and provide troubles on a societal level. These problems need to be addressed during its nascent stage, as it has the possibility of spilling over into ones adulthood, which could prove to be quite strenuous to deal with later.

The other problem is quite proliferate and is experienced by most age groups, and it threaten to incapacitate a given individual, disabling them from handling their responsibilities and leading to breakdowns. Be it subliminal or major, depression is something that has been burgeoning with the changing lifestyles, and needs to be addressed, as there aren't many who are even aware of the condition that they might be suffering from. It affects all the parameters of ones life, and most predominantly their cognitive. Campaigns or any other forms of imparting knowledge or setting up of helplines could benefit the society on an individual as well as collective level.
