Explanation / Answer

Unit 5.1- The two social changes to the distribution of social security benefits that can be enacted are the following-

1- There should be increment in the payout of senior citizens because prices are getting higher of the things that we need daily. Except this there are some natural calamities can also take place. So a modest raise in the payout of social security beneficiaries would be very helpful.

2- The maximum monthly payment should be adjusted for the benefit of retirees. FRA monthly payment is $2,687 that was increased by 48% from 2016. Most of the retirees are not getting 100% of their full retirement benefit because they claim their benefits before reaching the age of 65. So we can say that a person generally needs to work for 35 years to get the maximum monthly benefits after his retirement.

Both of these situations definitely require a political approach because the situation has not changed since last 30 years. For the success of these reforms the political parties need to analyse the benefits for senior citizons and respond properly to successfully apply them. There should be an active partnership between the states, social partners, societies and businesses for the benefits of changes in social security system.

Answer- 5.2- Americans have low life expectancy and infant mortality in comparison to other high income nations. These disadvantages of Americans generally starts from birth and continue across the life course. The main factors that give rise to these problems are differences in health care system, behaviour of individuals, inequality in socio-economic conditions, physical environment, etc.

Some main reasons of US health disadvantage are individual's diet, physical inactivity, consumption of alcohol or tobacco, obesity and other drug use.According to a study of NAS (National Academy of Sciences) smoking is the main factor explaining the low life expectancy in US and specially in women. The poor behaviour of Americans towards their lifestyle become a main factor of low life expectancy and infant mortality. Another main factor is the built physical environment. Access to the use of recreational activities, fast food outlets may lead to poor health conditions. The built physical environment does not provide the opportunity of physical activities, there is big question why US has less health promoting bulit environment while comparing to other countries.

Affordable Health Care Act- According to the act, Infant mortality is the best way to measure the protection of women, children and families of any society. US has made an amazing progress in reducing the rates of infant mortality. The affordable health care act has several provisions which has an impact on reducing infant mortility and it has given national prevention and wellness startegy. This health care act that infant mortality rate has to be the priority of the nation. It gives support to public health infrastructure for thew fulfilment of the responsibilities of state, local and tribal health departments. The public health investment fund has been brought to resolve many health threats of infant mortality and its factors.

The affordable health care act focuses on maternal, infant and childhood home visiting program to improve in the conditions of maternal and infant health indicators. With the help of these programs we can surely come over with the health problems which US is facing today.
