Hazing can be defined as any activity /behaviour expected out of someone joining a group that aims to humiliate, degrade or cause physical/psychological /emotional trauma. Hazing can be defined as a form of bullying where old members of a group have the tradition to haze the new members and later pass on this tradition to the victims. Hazing is often seen in high schools, military and even workplace.

Hazing can take variety of forms and isn't restricted to one specific practice. Therefore, while giving penalties for hazing, it should be done taking into account the severity of the act. When physical harm is done, hazing attains the status of a crime and thus treating in the jurisdiction with the specific penalties for physical harm. Penalties such as a fine of a moderately prized amount can be charged to ensure that such misconduct isn't repeated.

Hazing can't be treated as a hate crime. This is because hazing isn't in practice a hate crime, but a tradition used to maintain the hierarchy within the group. Therefore it is necessary to treat it accordingly. It should become a punishable crime by means of students, officials and workers of organisation made to sign a pact with the organisation that says one won't practice hazing and a breaking of the same pact leading to punishable charges.
