Prior to learning about schizophrenia through your readings and the video, what was your perception of people with schizophrenia?

What did you learn about schizophrenia and other mental illnesses that you did not know about before. Was there anything surprising that you learned? Did you believe any of the myths?

Question 1: Prior to learning about schizophrenia through the given readings and videos, the knowledge and awareness regarding schizophrenia being a dangerous disease and the perception that patients of schizophrenia are generally institionalised was present. Also the perception that individuals affected by schizophrenia looks starkly different than the normal population with incomprehensible speech was also present.

Question 2: The readings and videos were quite informative. The most basic knowledge that schizophrenia is splitting of mind and not splitting of personality was an eye opener. Prior to this, ignorance regarding the same was present. Also through appropriate and adequate medical treatment schizophrenia is a completely curable disease where people can lead a productive life was also enlightening. Myths such as patients of schizophrenia are dangerous and perpetrators of violence, can't lead productive lives and schizophrenia in the family would lead to sure likelihood of the other family members also getting the disease were some of the myths believed in prior to reading and watching these videos.
