Water Birth
This alternative birth method was introduced in the early 1900s in the United States.A woman can choose to labor in a warm water tub or jacuuzi and come out for the child birth or can choose to give birth in the warm water itself.This method is based on the concept that baby has been submerged in the amniotic for nine months and that water has a soothing effect on mother ,promotes efficient uterine contractions,stimulates the release of of endorphins the natural pain relievers,thus promoting a natural birth with less pain and more ease.
The risks associated are water embolism,water aspiration,and snapping of cord during delivery
Home Birth
Prior to 1900 home birth were the most common method of child birth.This has now became a trend again as an alternative method under the supervision of a trained midwife or a nurse.Home birth is a better option for those who wants to avoid the normal procedures of hospital births as episiotomy,epidural anesthesia,and other medical and surgical methods.It also gives the added benefit of familiar homely surrounding with the loved ones to be around the would be mother to care for.
The possible risks include the conditions that would require an immediate hospitilization are premature rupture of membranes,fetal ditress high blood pressure of mother,hemorrhage andcord prolapse.Maternal exhaustion and no progress in labor also require immediate hospitalization.
The Bradley Method
Developed by Robert A Bradley in1940s is husband coached natural birth method.The concept of this method is that a women can give birth in a natural way with ease and less pain by adequate support,education,preparation and coaching.Classes are conducted by the trainers trained in this method for both partners especially the would be mothers during the last trimesters of the preganancy.The classes are focussed on nutrition,the changes associated with preganancy,role of coach,stages of labor and developing a birth plan.This method emphasizes that the couples who complete these classes are likely to have child birth with no medical and surgical procedures of normal child birth at hospitals.
This method stresses on the classes and coaching, the claims that this methods is often not proved ,there still arises complications that require the medical procedures.This is the disadvantage of the Bradley's method.
