Question

Create your own experiment (10points). 1. Identify a question of interest 1. What are the factors this question addresses? 2. Formulate an explanation (your hypothesis) that answers this question. 1. Describe the causal relationship that you think exists between these two factors. Ex. Factor 1 causes an i in Factor 2 3. Describe the method(s) you would use to conduct a study that addresses this question. 1. Who would your participants be? 2. What method would you use to collect data? 3. What is the Independent Variable in your study (variable that is manipulated) 4. What is the Dependent Variable in your study (variable that is being measured; outcome variable) 4. Describe what the results would be if they were to support your hypothesis 5. Would this research be theoretical research or applied research?

Explanation / Answer

AIM: To use different methods of disciplining children and to see how it works.

VARIABLES: Reward and Punishment (Multilevel Factor 1) and Discipline in children (Factor 2)

A1 1) Here the factors that the question (aim) addresses are Reward, Punishment and Discipline. We will be looking for some kind of correlation between these factors in the question.

HYPOTHESIS: There is positive correlation between Factor 1 (Reward and punishment) and Factor 2 (Discipline).

A2 1) There exists a relation between the factors and we hypothise that it is a positive relationship. So an increase in Factor 1 (F1) should increase Factor 2 (F2) and a decrease in Factor 1 (F1) will decrease Factor 2 (F2). We will prove this through this study if our hypothesis is true or false.

A3 Here we will be using Simple Random sampling (method for the data collection) where we will randomly select even number of both girls and boys and form 2 equal groups i.e. 10 (5 each of girls and boys) in group 1 (G1) and 10 in group 2 (G2). G1 will be subjected to rewarding for right behavior and G2 will be subjected to punishment for wrong behavior. The results should be noted down in their respective columns and the test has to be conducted for both increase as well as decrease in Factor 1.

1) Participants are both girls and boys, divided into 2 groups 10 in each group. Both groups will have 5 each of both girls and boys, totaling the count of participants to 20.

2) We will be using Simple Random sampling for data collection in which we will take a smaller sample size from a larger population and use it to research and make generalizations about the larger population. So here the subset will be the 20 participants that we have taken from the larger population of the state/district.

3) Here the Independent Variable is Multi level Factor 1 (F1). We will be using 2 types of F1 to see the changes in the other factor F2.

4) The Dependent Variable is Factor 2 (F2). We will check to see its results to see if there is an increase or decrease in this factor when we manipulate the Independent Variable (F1).

A4) If the result comes out in support of the Hypothesis it will cause the Hypothesis to be True. So, when F1 (Rewarding or punishing) is increased there is an increase in F2 (Discipline), while F1 (Rewarding or punishing) is decreased F2 (Discipline) also decreases. So this tells us that F1 is directly proportional to F2 and that there is a positive correlation between F1 and F2 (Otherwise Hypothesis will be false & correlation will be either negative or there will be no correlation).

Note: Applied research is a research that seeks to answer a question in the real world and to solve a problem. It is always practical and corresponds to the real world. Theoretical research is a research that is theoretical in nature, they aren't always directly applicable or useful immediately.

A5) This research will be an applied research since it corresponds to real world matters and it is practical in application. It is applied to in day-to-day life at homes, schools and colleges. Since it is applicable in real world it is an applied research rather than theoretical research.
