Dear Madam,
I work in the Product team at BuildTech Sdn. Bhd. As you might be aware, I have been with the company for the past four years.
Since our rapid growth from 15 to 60 employees, I have noticed many changes – both good and bad – in the workplace. I would like to call your attention to one of these. Recently, I have noticed that people communicate with each other only for work purposes. There is hardly any friendly banter. Hardly any personal relationships are being formed. The atmosphere has become rather cold and clinical.
I would like to say that friendly, personal relationships make for a more enjoyable workplace. Becoming friends with colleagues to form lifetime relationships should be one of the joys of coming to work. Research shows that people with friends at work are more productive in their jobs, producing better quality work. This in turn increases profit!
To foster a warmer workplace, I would suggest having some designated time in which people can get together. For example, discourage eating at one's desk so that people are encouraged to sit in the cafeteria and socialize for a while. More formal ways of doing this, e.g. regular office parties, are also one solution. Another way is to offer free cake for birthdays.
I do feel this might improve relationships between staff and lead to a happier workplace.
Thank you for considering my suggestions.
Many thanks,
ABC
