I think the answer to this is option a. As the number of arguments a couple has increases, their marital satisfaction decreases, when controlling for income and life satisfaction.

I think and believe marital satisfaction comes with better understanding of each other. Although income has no direct relation with the marital satisfaction but it still holds some effect. When there are too many differences between individuals while trying to control income and life satisfaction, it becomes extremely difficult for any human being to keep a balance between the two. Things start to fall apart and there are major disagreements and fall-outs. For marital satisfaction, is extremely important to value the feelings and opinions of both the individuals involved. Although income is not the only factor involved in a marriage but it cannot be considered to have a casual link between the two as well.
