Research the concept of the virtual organization. Then, explain how a manager can measure work that is performed when the employee may be 5,000 miles away? Be sure to consider the virtual and global organizations and how a manager would control and measure work from afar.

Manipulative employee’s personalities, values, or attitudes, etc. is not effective. An effective manager can try to control the environment and standardized processes requirement, milestones that must be met by an organization to ensure that the work-related activities of everyone are the right steps towards an organization goals.
A manager must have rules and control the structure of the virtual work environment. They have meeting quarterly or monthly for discussions on accomplishments and performance, deadlines, and milestones that will need to be met. The meeting can be attained by video chats, in person, or over the telephone.
Management can measure work that is performed by employees by having systems that will gather and reports employee’s performances logs. They can have shift leaders that are local that will report to you on employee’s performances.
Managers can also look at the data from sales, customer, and product to see how the employees are doing. An organization can have a chat board that will show if you are in or out of the office that can be online so a manager can see when you was last online.

Irrespective of the location of the manager and the employee, effective management techniques and communication tools can help the manager review and measure the performance of the employees at other locations.
Below are the various items that are usually reviewed to direct the employees towards the objectives and address their concerns -
1. Work related instructions and deliverable summary by time
2. Firm and project level objectives and how the employee is working towards the same.
3. Individual development activities like training.

To track employee's presence in and out of office is not advised at it results in an increased micromanagement that not only results in wastage of time but also demotivates the employees.
