Question

A new client comes to see you. She explains that she has been thinking about coming to counseling for some time and begins to explain what is on her mind:

One of the things I am frustrated about is that I have a hard time making friends and getting close to people. I have been told that I do not listen to others very well, that I am selfish, and that I am always looking out for myself. I disagree with all that. The fact of the matter is that I am simply misunderstood. I listen when there is something worth listening to. In today’s world, you have to look out for yourself, or people will take advantage of you. Still, I am not that happy, and I am somewhat lonely.

Describe the multiple topics presented by the client.
