2 research question on gun control

GUIDE to completing the above.

Definition:

A research question is a “ logical statement that progresses from what is known or believed to be true to that which is unknown and requires validation . . . it is the purpose stated in the form of a question: what do we need to know and why?” (Lipowski 1668).

Purpose:

A research question:

Guides your research by limiting and informing the types of sources you select, the limitations of your research, the methodology of your research, and the disciplinary focus of your research.

Guides your reading by clarifying your purpose. The explicit language in the question—“effects,” “causes,” “compares,” “allows”—combined with the implicit warrants in the question—a need for action, a matter of degree, a statement of values—determines the information you select as valid in the literature.

Guides your writing by supporting exigency and by affirming your goals. Your goal is to fully answer the question you pose; your thesis statement will be the answer to your research question.

Research questions are at the foundation of all scholarly research, regardless of the selected discipline/major.

Construction:

The construction of an effective research question entails several factors: inquisitiveness, specificity, audience awareness, a sense of purpose, a sense of scope, and an informed (even impassioned but informed/educated) opinion. Features of an effective research question include the following:

The question is open-ended.

The question addresses the root cause(s) of the problem.

The question has a singular purpose.

The question is narrow in scope.

The question is narrow in focus.

The question lacks an obvious answer.

The answer to the question rests on an informed, well-supported opinion, not on individual beliefs, values, popularity, or prejudice.

Obviously, you should ask a research question to which you truly want to find an answer!

Examples:

Weak research questions:

--Is a meat-centered diet worth the effects on our bodies and the environment?

--Which is better—school uniforms or no uniforms?

--What caused the recent mudslides in California?

Strong research questions:

+How does human consumption of a meat-centered diet affect the environment?

+What psychological effects occur in young adolescents when they wear school

uniforms?

+How have the recent mudslides in California influenced building construction standards

for residences?

Test:

Aside from testing the research question by evaluating it against the above list, writers can also use the “ask ‘why’ five times” method:

Original question: What can be done to eliminate prison overcrowding in Colorado?

“Why” questions:

Why are prisons overcrowded? [Because there aren’t enough rehab programs]

Why are there not enough rehab programs? [Because federal funding was cut]

Why was federal funding cut? [Because the programs proved ineffective at stopping recidivism]

Why did the programs prove ineffective? [Because there was a lack of therapist and behavioral health training]

Why was there a lack of training? [Because not enough resources were provided to train the therapists]

Result: What can be done in Colorado prisoner rehabilitation programs to ensure adequate resources for therapists and training?

Research questions on gun control

Q) What could be done to reduce gun violence?

Ans) The is a usual debate revolving around "gun control" -vizaviz., laws that would make guns harder to bought, to carry or to possess. But this cannot be the only methodology for reducing gun violence. While the idea of new laws get most of the attention , some projects focus on enforcing existing laws more effectively or just change the policy strategy

Q) Does gun control result in fewer guns ?

Ans) In principle , it is not necessary to keep guns away from each and every person , just those who misuse it. Current federal gun regulation contains many loopholes. For example : the business that deals in guns are suggested and required to keep the records and also run regular background checks because guns can be transferred with other private citizens without any record , making such purchases easy. No matter how stringent laws are , those who want to have can still obtain them through private sales.
