Question

engineering. There are a number of fascinating topics in the field of Biomatenals. Please reflect on this semester and select the most interesting in biomatenals Please briefly describe why it is most interesting Design two (2) intriguing/inspiring/insightful questions related your favorite topic in the field of biomaterials. One question should have an answer and the other question should be unanswered at this time Create an answer for your first question. Propose an experimental approach to develop an answer for your second question. You will be assigned points based on the elegance of your question and answer, Now imagine that you partner with Jules Verne and build a time machine and travel 5-10 years into the future. Describe how your topic would have progressed within that time span, Outline a K-12 project proposal (1 page max) that highlights an innovative wav to teach elementary, middle, or high school students about your favorite topic. Be creative!

Explanation / Answer

The compounds, which are produced by the biological organisms or have properties that biological compounds possess, are called Biomaterials. Biomaterials should have properties, like compatible and inert with biological materials, should have low cytotoxicity, and non-viable, should have sensitization, low pyrogencity and high mechanical strength.

Types of biomaterials include

a)

The most interesting biomaterial is Metal, like stainless steel, co-Cr alloys and Ti and its alloys, because they are used for bone plats, suture and joint replacement, etc. These metals have all properties of biomaterial, like compatibility, low cytotoxicity, non-viable and non-reactive, etc.

b)

c)

1)

The advanced material science is been applied to the medical world, since 2000 years age. For example, Chinese and Romans used gold for dentistry. In PMMA (poly- (methylacrylate)) is first used in dentistry in 1937. The development of applied and modern science has increased the scope of using biomaterials in medicine.
