Answer: I personally believe Ex-President Barack Obama speech very effectively. He convey very good impression and credibility to his audience. The main characteristics that he exemplifies include –

His gesture like smiling, walking with confidence, and waving hand towards audience are contagious and build up he confidence right before he begins his speech. Second in the beginning of his speech, he strikes a great connection with the audience by taking about them, to them, and invoking the collective feelings. For example in his famous presidential speech in 2004 he began with glorifying the collective (society) that is United States of America in its various qualities and then connect his personal story with that of nations and thus developing a common cord with audience.

Secondly his speech was so neat and smooth without any improper words and gesture indicating weakness of lack of confidence in his style. Thing like frequent use of intensifiers (e.g. so, therefore, surely), unnecessary hedges (e.g. ‘I think’, ‘I believe’, ‘I guess’) or sound indicative of hesitation like – hmm, uh, well, you know etc. Each of his sentence was succinct, direct, and to the point, which conveys the confidence audience.
