1. The world has always been “global.”

Answer: There are many definitions of globalization. Antony Giddens’ defines globalization as: "Globalization is intensification of global relations that connects distant localities in such ways that local events are formed by events that happen many kilometers away and vice versa". It basically means increasing connectedness of people and institutions across the world. Recently the rise of information and communication technology and has raised the salience in our consciousness of economic and social exchanges among different regions of world. An important questions studied by scholars is timing of globalization. Professor JA Schotle has divided the scholar of globalization into two groups – one who believe globalization if historical process (within this group one subgroup thinks it has been a linear process and the other one assumes it to be a cyclical process) and the second group believes that it is a recent process and unprecedented.

Let us focus upon the first group who believe that the world has always been global –

Some of the authors who consider globalization a historical process include P.Hirst and G. Thompsson (1999) who claim of hidden continuity of globalization and AG Hopkins who examined it its historical context.

Four different forms of globalization have been postulated about historical process of globalization -

Therefore it seems quite evident that globalization has been an ongoing process and world has always been global though the recent technological advances have probably increased the pace of this process and made it more salient in our consciousness.
