How would you describe academic writing, and how does it differ from informal writing?
The most basic difference between the two styles of writing is the language of both. The choice of words is of utmost importance, tone of language. Also, formal or academic writing includes particular formats in which the answer have to be formulated. Informal writing does not have such strict adherence to format. No personal words can be used in academic writing and also, the abstract should be including keywords and the precise summary of methods and purpose of the research. Abstract should not be more than 250 words.
What is your experience with academic writing?
I have published two research papers in a local journal, for drug development using silver nano particles, and one research paper on optimisation of production using plant alkaloids. Also, i have published my dissertation thesis in the antioxidant properties of plant produced silver nano particles.
What strengths do you bring as a writer that will help you be successful in your academic program?
As a writer, I have the ability of using words concisely as vocabulary is very important in publishing or such writing. The usage of words do not necessarily have to be grandiose but effective usage of language is important. Also, it is important convey your purpose in the introduction, without necessarily stretching the introduction to very long. Abstract should be formulated such that it should include the purpose of the study, summary of methods and a probable conclusion.
What areas do you think you might struggle with as a writer, and how might you overcome these areas of concern?
The struggle might be to contain the urge of expression by elaborating the sentences. This might bring redundancy in language and make the article less effective overall. Also, it is important to avoid plagiarism while formulating the research as extensive literature search might develop the urge to paste certain phrases. This might result in plagiarism, not word to word, but paraphrasing plagiarism. This requires to be avoided.
