Question
Think of a time in your life when your concept of yourself changed significantly. What was the event and/or who was the person(s) that triggered the change in view of yourself? How would you describe how you viewed yourself before this change (e.g. did you feel you were shy, confident, etc.)? How would you describe how you viewed yourself after this change? Thinking about how you view yourself today (your current selfconcept) which aspects of your self would you like to change and why (e.g. your confidence level, your tolerance level, etc.)? Which of the five skills (mentioned in our course text pp. 72-74) do feel you have and which do you want to improve upon to make your desired changes? Do you believe that self-fulfilling prophecy (events that happen as the result of being foretold, expected or talked about) played any role in any of the shifts of your self-concept? Support your analysis with examples.

Explanation / Answer
During my child hood I had major self esteem issues, viewed myself extremely shy and quiet, feeling isolated in school. Not having the confidence to talk in a group of people, which lead to making very few friends in school.I really viewed myself inferior and not "cool" enough like my classmates, who were somewhat popular kids of the school.I always stayed in the background, always confused about myself, thinking about that why dont I have enough confidence to speak up in class or in a group of people. The view about myself changed when I went to college, met new people, got exposed to independence in college culture, where everything needed to be done by yourself and not relying on your teachers like in school. The college extra curricular societies, festivals, managing schedules, made me discover a different side of myself which was always repressed during school.I joined societies, participated more in competitions, which made me more confident and a completely different person. The major change happend when I had to coordinate an entire event in college all by myself, which definitely was nerve wracking but has made me who I am today,a much more comfortable and confident person. My view about myself changed and made me open to experience new things and have no self esteem issues any more.I believed in myself more and my potential to achieve things in life.
