Explanation / Answer
Negotiation is a process in which we decide on a mutual satisfying goal accomplishments. I have professional work experience related to my job as an operations manager. I was the member of purchase committee to my organization which deals with food supply to poor families via public run canteens. To accomplish this project, we have a particular budget and under that cost constraints we have to find a good raw material suppliers to our food production factory.
We have to negotiate on pricing terms and credit terms. Then, we as a team develop our best alternatives to negotiated agreement (BATNA) with XYZ Corporation. It helps us to deal as per mutual satisfying pricing levels which fulfil our needs to received supply of 10 metric ton of wheat within a year and other food related raw materials.
I experienced that successful negotiation can only be achieved if one will display good interpersonal and communication skills. Being a good listener, always correct the terms and conditions while discussing on the issues relevant to the negotiation. Pervasive communication brings ease to other party and they get healthy response from their negotiating party. Even, one who speaks first indirectly gets first mover advantage at the negotiation table. Even, setting a deadline and benchmarking will help a lot to successfuly close the deal with the party.
