Question

A difficult case. Task: Determine which example (below) is a deductive or inductive argument. In other words, classify the arguments below as deductive or inductive. It is possible that both are deductive or both are inductive arguments. It is possible that one argument is deductive, and one is inductive. In addition, state what type of argument each example is (mathematics, df./meaning, syllogism, inductive generalization, statistical inference, analogy, causal inference, prediction, authority, signs/symptoms). One is required to state the reasons/justification for one's answers/determinations. Be clear in providing an answer and a justification for one's answer. For example: "Argument Example A is deductive because it is an argument from mathematics. It is an argument from mathematics because..." Et cetera. Argument Example A. Premise 1: The label on this dowel indicates that the dowel is one-yard long Conclusion: Therefore, this dowel is one-yard long Argument Example B. Premise 1: The label on this dowel indicates that the dowel is one-yard long Conclusion: Therefore, this dowel is three feet long

Explanation / Answer

Answer is as follows ..

Argument Example 1

This is an argument from mathematics .It is inductive argument because the premises that the label on this dowel indicates that the dowel os one-yard long ,which is the specific statement ,that can be unlikely true , but the conclusion is not giving a guarantee that the the premises is checked or even justified before finding a generalised reason towards the answer .So this is inductive argument which is not giving a surety about the result that it is valid or not.

Argument Example 2

This is the argument from the mathematics .It is deductiive argument because the premises is true and valid as one yard long means three feet long and the conclusion gives us a reasonable result that it would be impossible for the conclusion to be false .Deductive approach to something means to deduct the main fact from the given statement. And in this conclusion the answer is beyond the given information ,so it indicates the vast study of that thing and then finding out the valid result.
