According to Psychology: From Inquiry to Understanding (3rd ed.), refer to pages 102-103 Adolphs, et al. (1994) conducted a case study looking at the relationship between the amygdala and the emotion of fear. The participant’s amygdala was destroyed; she subsequently was unable to identify fear in others’ facial expressions and did not display a fear response, even when exposed to frightening stimuli. Their conclusion was that the amygdala plays a primary role in one’s fear response. Why is the need to replicate this case study important? Explain how a researcher might replicate this study.

Amygdala is present in the cerebral hemisphere and is responsible for the emotions we feel. We cannot experience any emotions, positive or negative if the amygdala is not there. So the conclusion given, that amygdala plays primary role in one's fear response is correct. The case study can be replicated to show the importance of amygdala. The researcher may use introducing different emotions like stimuli for sadness, happiness, worry and so on.
