1. BLOOD

Composition: Blood mainly constitutes of blood cells and plasma.

Blood cells are erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes.

Erythrocytes contain RBCs. Thrombocytes are also called platelets.

Plasma constitutes 55% of blood.

Other components of blood include coagulation factors, immunoglobins, electrolytes.

Blood pH and viscosity: blood pH is between 7.35 to 7.45. The blood viscosity at physiological hematocrit of 45 is 3.2 centipoise.

Uses of blood:

1. Carry of oxygen and other important nutrients to the tissues and elimination of waste products like CO2 and other metabolic waste.

2. Coagulation

3. Blood contains leukocytes which provide immunological functions.

4. Regulation of body temperature.

5. Transport hormones.

2. PLASMA: plasma constitutes of mainly water and plasma proteins. Other constituents of plasma are electrolytes, nutrients like glucose, clotting factors. The three main plasma proteins are :
