Question

O htipsjnewconnect 3 assignment Clck and drag each label into the correct category to indicate whether the scenario would cause crenation (shrinking), hemolysis (swelling), or no change in a red blood cell Placing a red blood cell with a concentraion or o 9% Naci into asolution of 1 5% NaCl Placing a red blood cell into a thypertonic solution Placing a red blood cel into an isotonic solution Placing a red blood cell into a hypotonic solution Placing a red blood cell in distilled water Placing a red bood cell with an ICF concentration or 9% NaCl rto a sok ton with 0 1% NaCl Hemolysis Crenation No Change Reset

Explanation / Answer

1. When we place a RBC with icf concentration of 0.9% NaCl into a solution of 1.5% which means placing the RBC into hypertonic solution- it will cause crenation or shrinking of RBC due to moving of water from red blood cell into the outer solution by osmosis due to more concentration of solutes in the outer environment.

2. Placing RBC into hypotonic solution or into a solution having concentration of NaCl 0.1%- here water will move from outer solution into the RBC and it will cause swelling of RBC.

3. PLACING a RBC into an isotonic solution will have no effect on RBC as there will be no movement of Water in and out of the cell.

4. Placing an RBC into distilled water:- as there will be endosmosis of water and as there is no cell wall in RBC it will swell up and finally will burst. Which is called hemolysis
