Question

True or false?

True or False: Each item listed here would be seen when blood calcium levels are too low. Increase in osteoprotegerin RANK activates osteoclasts Increased calcium uptake in the intestine RANKL is expressed on the surface of osteoblasts (Click to select) True False (Click to select) E Increase in calcitonin Increase in parathyroid hormone Increased osteoclast activity Increased release of calcium from the urine (Click to select) (Click to select) (Click to select) (Click to select)

Explanation / Answer

When calcium level gets low our body try to maintain the normal calcium level by synthesize and release parathyroid hormone in response to low blood calcium levels. To bring blood calcium levels into the normal range, the release of parathyroid hormone stimulates osteoclasts to reabsorb bone mineral, therefore releasing calcium into the blood. Parathyroid hormone also enhances calcium absorption by the intestines, and prevents calcium loss in urine to increase calcium levels in the blood.

ANSWERS

Osteoprotegerin limit the osteoclast activity. Support bone formation

It activates osteoclast and promote bone resorption

Parathyroid hormone enhances calcium absorption by the intestines

Calcitonin acts to high blood calcium level.

Response to low blood calcium levels

Osteoclast cause bone resorption and release calcium into blood

Prevents calcium loss in urine to increase calcium levels in the blood.
