Question

Is the spinal cord intimately and profusely attached to the bony vertebrae? Explain. Explain the anatomy of "cushioning" the soft spinal cord within bony spinal column. Is the spinal cord attached to the skull at the foramen magnum? What attaches the spinal cord to the coccyx? Spinal cord dura mater is continuous with what structure wrapping the brain? Spinal cord dura mater is continuous with what structure wrapping the spinal nerves? Spinal cord dura mater is continuous with what structure at the inferior terminus of the vertebral canal? Where (what area) is anesthetic injected for epidural anesthesia? What part of the body is numbed? . · .

Explanation / Answer

ans 1... spinal cord is not attached to the bony vertebrae.in the bony vertebrae there is vertebral canal in which the spinal cord runs

ans 2...the soft spinal cord is covered by meningis that are continous from brain. in between the spinal cord and the bony vertebrae canal there is Cerebrospinal fluid which do cushioning of the spinal cord.

ans 3..no the spinal cord is not attached to skull at the foramen magnun.spinal cord is the continuition of brain step that is coming out of foramen magnun with meninges of brain

ans 4..filum terminale is the structure that joins the spinal cord coccyx.it is a structure originating from conus medularis.at the level of L2 vertibrae.

ans 5...spinal cord dura is continuous with the dura mator of brain which is the ouermost meningial layer covering the brain.

ans 6... structure covering the spinal nerve is epineurium which is continuous with the dura mator of spinal cord.

ans 7...spinal cord dura mator ends at L2 vertebral level and that region is called conus medullaris.from there the structure that continuning is filum terminale

ans 8..it is the epidural area.spinal level T11 to L2 .we use bupivacaine for this.it produces numbness of lower abdomen and the legs
