One of the major developments in the alcohol field during the 1980s was the vastly increased attention to the plight of the family. For the first time, engaging families in treatment became the norm. In addition, there were efforts to reach out to family members, even if the alcohol dependent person was not in treatment. As part of the attention to the family, alcohol dependence began to be described as a family.
In 2012, an estimated 7.5 million children under age 18 were living with a parent with a serious alcohol problem. Nationwide that's 10.5% of all children under age 18. Picture kids on the playground. One in every 10 will be returning home to a parent with a significant alcohol problem. "Significant" means meeting the formal criteria for a diagnosis of substance abuse or dependence. The majority (80%) live in two-parent families. Almost all of the rest live with a single mom (15%).

1- The study is about assessing the alcohol use pattern in family and the prevalent family structure of the alcoholic person.Alcohol causes main damage to liver if consume excessively. When people having minor and dependent children significantly consume alcohol, the detrimental effect of alchol on their body will impact in the life of their children too. How far alcohol damage people is the theme of the study so more focus are on liver enzymes.
2- Children lean the concept of hapiness and how to behave with people from family. Such children whose parents are consuming significant alcohol will not able to see that spark and vibes of hapiness in their family, ultimately it will effect on their upbringing and socialization.These children find difficult in believing and trusting people outside.
3- It might be a warning signal but a trouble child doesnot related to the signal of an alcohol problem in family always. The factors like how the parents have relationship between them, relationship with kid, If any of the alcoholic parent awlays indulge in abusing family members, fight, filthy behavior with spouse etc,it will demoralise the kid and he will compare his life with that of his friend whose parents are not such alcoholic. An inferior feeling will be developed in the child.
4- In a study in 2017 it is found that around 8.7 million children lives with a parent with a serious alcohol problem from 73.7 million children. It is roughly 11.8% of nation's children.There is increase in the trend from 10.8% in 2012 to 11.8% in 2017.
