Explanation / Answer

2. The SRY gene is found on the Y chromosome. It initiates the male embryonic development in the XY sex determination system. It also leads to the development of male phenotypes. SRY gene does this by providing instructions for making a protein known as sex- determining region Y protein. This acts as a transcription factor, it binds to specific regions of DNA and helps in controlling the activity of certain genes. It essentially starts the process of development of male reproductive organ as in testes and prevent the development of female reproductive organ such as fallopian tubes, uterus.
