The oncotic and hydrostatic pressure is responsible for the filtration and reabsorption of the substrate across the arterial and venous bed. Oncotic pressure is the pressure exerted by the proteins present in the blood plasma mainly albumin. Oncotic pressure tends to pull the water into the blood vessels. It is opposite of the hydrostatic pressure. As the name suggests, the hydrostatic pressure is pressure exerted by the water present in the blood plasma. Hydrostatic pressure tends to push the blood out of the blood vessels. This pull and push forces are responsible for the filtration and reabsorption across the blood vessels. The net direction of the force for reabsorption will be resultant of oncotic pressure minus hydrostatic pressure. The net direction of force for the filtration will be resultant of hydrostatic pressure minus oncotic pressure.
