Do not copy y from my slides or the textbook or each other Question 1 1 pts In class we discussed direct feedback as well as first-order, second-order and third- order feedback. Provide a detailed example of direct feedback that involves regulation of blood glucose. Provide a detailed example (i.e. tell me about the specifics of the neurons and hormones involved and where they come from and go to) of first order- feedback that involves the posterior pituitary. Provide a detailed example (i.e. tell me about the specifics of the neurons and hormones involved and where they come from and go to) for second-order feedback that involves regulation of blood glucose and a third-order feedback that involves the anterior pituitary. How many hormones are involved in a first-, second- and third-order feedback loop?

Explanation / Answer

In direct feedback loop,

There is stimulus to endocrine gland which releases specific hormone to circulation and it carries to target organ

Eg when blood glucose high or low seems it stimulate pancreas for desired compensatory changes either alpha cells or beta cellss releases glucagon or insuline respectively.

In first order feedback loop

Stimulus carried to sense organ from which sensory neuron sends it to integrating C. from where it goes to target organ by neuron and desired response occur

Eg. Anti diuretic hormone secreted by posterior pituitary works by this way. Stimulus send to hypothalamus then to posterior pituitary and direct kidney

Second order feedback loop

Stimulus goes to sense organ, sensory neuron carries it to integrating C. then neuron carries to endocrine gland which releases specific hormone to circulatory system and carried to target organ

Eg strech receptors in digestive track sense the change in gut volume caused by eating meal. Strech receptors send signal to an integrating c. in neuron of digestive track and IC sends a message via neurons then goes to pancreas to release insuline to stomach for digestion

Third order feedback loop

Stimulus carries to sense organ then with sensory neuron it reaches to integrating c. Then neuron carries it to endocrine gland 1 which releases hormone 1 in circulatory system which stimulate endocrine gland 2 which releases hormone 2 and carried to target organ

Eg. Secretion of thyroid hormone

First stimulus give to hypothalamus then it releases thyroid stimulating hormone which goes to anterior pituitary which releases thyroid stimulating hormone which acts on thyroid gland to secrets thyroid hormone
