Explanation / Answer

INTRODUCTION

Studies have shown that along with use of biological contraceptives, suistainable economic development along with improved education and socio economic opputunites has lead to decrease in the total fertility growth rate. These factors have led women to be aware and to be able to have a say in reproduction. Several countries in the world aim to control their population and provide a better future to women. Today population control cannont merely be limited to handing over a box of contraseptives but requires women empowernment and education. These factors would help women to be more independent leading to upliftment of their economic status.

A1) India, with population estimated at 1.32 billion ranks 2nd highest after China. India took up population control measures in as early as 1951, that is just 4 years after her independence. Since then the country has witnessed several advancements in population control measures. Along with several other countries in the world, India too acknowledges the fact that women education and economic upliftement are essentially the best contraceptives to tackle the problem of population growth and improve status of women.

A2) India has time and again introduced various programes to uplift the status of women in society and provide them with better economic opportunites. According to National Sample Survey Report (2011-12), the workforce participation rate of female is 21.9% . As per India Country Report by Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on the Millennium Development Goals, the percentage of wage employment share of females has incresed from 18.6% in 2009-10 to 19.3% in 2011-12. This could be achived by introducing schemes which aimed at women empowerment and gender equality.

Follwoing schemes have enabled sustainable economic development for women across India.

A3) The concept of education and population control or education as the best contraceptive is also linked by how education provides economic freedom to women. As in case of India, educational reforms for girls has been an area of prime focus.

A4) Education and vocational training has led to increase in the participation of women in the economic sphere of the country. These measures have led to decrese in the population growth rate as now women too have thir say in their pregnancy. These measures have also led to removal of social evils that in the past had curbed the status of women. Vocational Training programmes has enabled women to be employed under variuos government programes and schemes MNREGA ( Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme Act). NSSO report of increase in female labour force in India is also an attribute to this.

Therefore, we can conclude that suistainable economic development and education are the best contraceptives.
