Question

Many programs exist that are not faith-based that received funding prior to President Bush’s faith-based initiative. Many believe that such programs receive less funding or have less access to more funding as they do not fit the requirements to receive funding under the faith-based initiative. Given the proposition that there is no evidence that faith-based treatment programs are any more or any less effective in reducing crime than are secular treatment programs, should the initiative and office developed under the Bush Administration be dispensed and funds distributed among secular and faith-based grant offices? Or should the initiative remain as it provides common ground of treatment between conservatives and liberals? Additionally, determine if students have a preference for the type of faith that is funded (e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, etc). What are the reasons they may have preferences? Address religious biases as needed.

Explanation / Answer

The FBO had started to provide federal support for social services, the programme was a reflexion of Bush’s Policy of Compassionate Conservatism so that this program got large fund during Bush’s administration and further. The other secular social service programs doing such kind of job for a long time but they were not able to qualify for funding under OFBCI.

As we know, America is a multicultural, multi-religious and dynamic society so there is no single program which could provide complete social service but the FBO was strongly supported by the white house so that it got a large amount of fund. The effect of this programme was not remarkably outstanding, sometimes it performs less than the local social support programme so that I completely agree that the programme did not achieve acceptations which were base of this program.

I think, in a democratic country, the faith-based programme is not useful because the constitution does not allow to support one or two faith and the faith is a personal interest so that government should not get involved in such condition. The fund is an important factor for this kind of programs but the main reason behind this program can be fulfilled by other secular groups if the government provide funds and support.
