Question
CheggAssume you are working at an agency with both inpatient and out patient services. Mary is a client of yours in inpatient so you will be working with her one-on-one at least once a week in inpatient treatment then she will transfer levels (from level III to level II & I) at which point you will also be her counselor in intensive outpatient. How can you integrate some CBT interventions that triggers into both inpatient and outpatient treatment. Her diagnoses include Alcohol Use Disorder, Opiate Use disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Use headings: Inpatient CBT Interventions, Outpatient CBT Interventions.
NOTE: THIS IS FOR A PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING CLASS AT GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY
NOTE: THIS QUESTION COULD BE ANSWERED BY SOMEONE WHO HAS TAKEN COUNSELING CLASSES OR PSYCHOLOGY *Chegg had no response for this (5PT) DQ. GCU is brutal. Yikes. I need an answer to post tomorrow. Thank you.
Explanation / Answer
Inpatient treatment can involve the use of a more in depth approach, which involve more number of sessions as well as activities that can be held on a daily basis. For instance, for alcohol abuse, the patient can be given the CBT (Cognitive beahvorial therapy) intervention, which can be clubbed with family as well as group therapy. Inpatient therapy is always more intensive in its approach as opposed to outpatient therapy, i.e. it involves a more focused approach and can involve the use of oral treatments as well, that help handle withdrawal.
Outpatient therapy treatment involves the use of CBT probably on a weekly basis, that too, one that includes twice or thrice a week. As outpatient treatments are less intensive as the clients/pateints are not admitted in the program.
