Firstable, Table layouts are difficult to revise. Except for the most simple web page designs, most layout tables require the use of a lot of colspan and rowspan attributes and of nested tables. Now, further imagine the difficulty of having to repeat the same design for a lots of pages across a large web site.On the other hand, an external style sheet can be very easily edited and can be applied for all the web pages.Second, tables take longer to load especially for a large conplex table. If you use specified widths for your tables, you end up with a very rigid layout that won't look good on monitors that are sized differently from your own monitor but with css media queries , you can create different designs for difference size screens. At last, tables do not always print well. Most of the time, when you try to print tables from the web sites, the browsers cut the tables into two pages. with css , you can create seperate style sheet just for printing the pages.
Explanation / Answer
Hey. I have lot of experience in web designing. So I can help you here.
This is no bookish knowledge but practical experience.
Nowadays, use of tables have been avoided. It makes your web appliaction heavier. Where as styles like <div> tags keep your applicaton lighter. Tables increase the overhead of the application. We need three set of tags i.e (table tr and td) to present some content as opposed to the one set of div tag. Style is always better because of three reasons.
1. easier to maintain- less code and less complex
2. more flexible - as one div is not dependent on other.
3. quicker to load - it doesnt need extra pass, runs straight away
Hope that makes your concepts clear.
