question Here is a spot for your comments and reflections on the presentations and/or poster sessions you attended at the Student Research Conference Please respond with whatever you feel you learned there, and how you think you will use that learning in the future. Do you see yourself participating in a similar activity in the future? If so, how would you prepare for the conference experience?

Example # 1

I attended the afternoon poster session and had the opportunity to learn about a couple of the different presenters projects. Two of the projects that I learned about were senior projects for architecture students. One designed a children's hospital that was designed to be extremely inclusive for the patients so that they and their families could feel like they were staying at home while there were there. The second project was a design for a hotel with a combined bar that would be in Green Bay. The designer is a big Green Bay Packers fan and was making something that fans would love and be able to enjoy right by the team's stadium. The final poster that I learned about was a business analytics project that was predicting the median home price in different areas based off of many different factors. All three of these posters were very neat and educational. I could see myself doing something like this with my senior project or another design project in the future. This would take a lot of preparation especially for the different questions that one could be asked.

Exampel #2

I attended a presentation prepared by Lindsey Byrd on the January 2016 winter storm from the perspective of satellites. I found it interesting that the storm itself was able to effect so much of the United States. She explained that the critical thickness of the storm was far beyond the normal capabilities of a storm that has has been in the atmosphere in a long time in the United States. Due to this rarity, the snowfall reached as far south as Florida. I found this interesting and it inspired me to want to learn more about the severe weather phenomenons that have happened all over the world. I personally think that seeing something interesting and intriguing will inspire my curiosity and provoke me to learn more about whatever sparked my interest. however, I do not think that I will be participating in a similar activity in the future unless it is assigned by a professor for a project.

Explanation / Answer

The poster and paper presentation organized by the college in New York City was an inspiring one, as it helped the young students to meet various researchers from different parts of the country and abroad. I was able to talk to some of the presenters and could learn how they conducted the research and prepared for the event. Most presenters have planned for the conference at least six months in advance and conducted research under the supervision of their professors. Every research had a question, hypothesis, methodology, results analysis and discussions. There were a few theoretical presentations too.

The major challenge of poster presentation is to present the critical matters in four posters. The event organizers would not allow the researchers to put more than four posters. The second challenge was attracting an audience to the posters and makes them engage in a meaningful conversation. It would be a great experience to face queries from students and experts of diverse background. Similarly, the paper presentation must be completed in seven minutes and later must face questions from the audience. The kinds of questions one receive from the participants are really challenging and the experience helps to develop sharper research and presentation skills. I am planning to attend at least one research conference every year and meet people from different areas of expertise.
