Suppose you are tasked with coming up with a system development approach for the following project: John's shoe store which operates a chain of local stores in Chicago wants to develop an e-commerce presence on the web so they can sell shoes to a wider market.  They want to integrate the new web-based system with their current corporate inventory and accounting systems used to manage all stores in the chain. You must select one of the following three software development methods: the systems development life cycle approach (SDLC), the Agile development approach, or the Object Oriented development approach.   Which one do you think would be the best choice for this project?  Justify your answers.   You might want to use the Web to assist you in answering this question.

Explanation / Answer

I think the Agile development Approach should be chosen because agile development is iterative and adaptive design technique. It continuously takes inputs from the stakeholder after end of each iteration of development phase and decides whether to go forward with more iterations or not. This is decided by delivering a fully working system after each iteration. To increase the stakeholders presence in the development every team involved in the development also has a representation from the stakeholder so that system meets their requirements.

In this case, John's shoe store will have some ideas in mind about the e-commerce platform but they will be greatly dependent on the developer how this ideas are implemented and may want to get involved in the process in which this is decided. Also, they will be expecting the product which should meet the design layout that they have in their mind but this could not be same as that of in developer's mind so iterative design analysis allows them to test the product repeatedly until all the expectations are met.
