Explanation / Answer
Rapport building with the audience is the first key to success for being a powerful public speaker. This is required because it connects the audience with the speaker. It builds a trust between audience & the speaker. It is a sign of affirmativity of the audience with the speaks what the speaker is saying. Audience will find some sort of connectivity with the speaker.
Different ways to build a rapport with the Audience:
1. Finding the profile of the audience and then connecting oneself with their profile
2. Understanding the demographical, educational, affluence level, Political, geographical, Technological, Environmental & cultural aspect of the audience and then finding commonality between oneself and the audience and then explaining these to them.
3. Telling story related to their daily life
4. Cracking Jokes
5. Engaging by asking questions/views towards the topic
Repurcussions of not building the Rapport:
1. Audience will not connect themselves with the speaker
2. Audience will feel bored
3. Audience will not trust on what speaker says
4. The session will not be engaging
5. Audience will not get for what they have come
Yes, I can recall one moment when the speaker engages by building an amazing rapport. The topic was on Management session. The speaker first came and introduced herself by explaining her background. Her background matches with the most of the profile of the audience. Then she also explained about her career and life where she found the similar situation which the team was facing then. She was friendly, shown her knowledge and was always interacting. By all these means she was very much successful in building rapport with the audience.
