I need a discussion response to my peers post
1) What are the typical techniques used by organizations to retain good employees? List at least 3 techniques.
There are several techniques that organizations use to retain good employees, three of those techniques include compensation and rewards, training and development, and employee engagement.
2) Then explain each in detail.
Compensation and Rewards- Our text tells us that organizations offer several rewards, the most common rewards are classifying each reward as either extrinsic or intrinsic(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 184). Three strategies that organizations can use to retain employees through compensation and rewards are lead the market with respect to compensation and rewards, tailor rewards to individual needs in a person-based pay structure, explicitly link rewards to retention(Managing for Employee Retention, 2017).
Training and Development- Our text tells us that employees with high demands for skill variety could be allotted to more complex jobs or tasks within a study unit(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 699). If employees feel that they are not given the opportunities to continually update their skills in order for them to grow, they are more liable to leave the organization(Managing for Employee Retention, 2017).
Employee Engagement- Our text tells us organizations emphasize employee engagement or the degree to which an employee identifies with and has enthusiasm for his or her work to take motivational factors into account(Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015, p. 155). One study found that highly engaged employees were five times less likely to quit than employees who were not engaged(Managing for Employee Retention, 2017).
3) Which one(s) do you believe work best in today's workplace?
I believe that employee engagement works best in the workplace because it is important for the employees of the organization be engaged to perform at a high level. For example, in the sales industry someone who is engaged daily are more likely to succeed in the industry and result in more earnings. On the other hand, the individual who isn’t engaged and is doing average work will result in getting average earnings. Eventually causing the employee to disengage and look to leave the company. As an organization it is important for all your employees to be engaged and commit to their job because that will drive results.
