Organizations are collecting and storing more data with mre detail all the time. In the recent past, we have seen data security breaches at Target, Home Depot, the Federal Government, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Organizations are trying to stay up with the criminals. They seem to find the tender spots before we have a chance to adjust to the last breach.

All of you are in this course as a journey to future responsibility either in your current company or in a new position. As a manager, as the one responsible, think about the responses to these questions:

Do you feel that there is an ethical concern (individual and organization) in the collection of personal data, storage of that data, and using data mining techniques to find out more about your customers?

Do you feel these databases and data mining techniques (software) are being used in a proper way within organizations?

Data security is important. But, from the company point of view, how important is it in the grand scheme of the business as a whole? After all, if we never have a breach, why spend more money on security?

Yes, I feel that there is an ethical concern in the collection of personal data, storage of that data, and using data mining techniques to find out more about customers because we should understand that there is personal data that the customers use and the organization should not access personal data of any customer just to use it in order to make the business relationship better with the customer. There is no legal issue in this case but it is an ethical issue that needs to be reviewed.

Yes, i believe that the database and data mining techniques are being used in a proper way within organizations because they provide more and more details to the organization and also provide recommendations by which they c an approach the business in order to make it better. Data is considered as an asset and that should be used by the organization to make the business better.

Data security is one of the most important aspects while collecting and maintaining data the organization needs to safeguard and protect the data so that there is no breach of data because a breach means that data is leaked and it may be used by other organizations. Data is confidential and the organizations cannot wait for the instance when a breach occurs instead they nee to keep the security aspect updated so that breach can be avoided.
