Question
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:
1. Compare and contrast the following, in terms of cores (or microprocessors), random access memory (RAM), disk storage, and networking capabilities.
2. Suppose that you were an architect working for a Fortune 500 company with millions of customers. Your company would like to provide a Web-based self-service computer environment for customers. Determine the computer platform that your company should use so that it can scale to the millions of customers. Include how the platform should be managed for high availability and redundancy for continuous uptimes. Explain how you would convince your company to adopt your solution. Provide both technical and business reasons.

For a basic web-page, with static pages and less number of pages in the site, a system with an apache tomcat web server, a standard OS, 500MHz of processing speed will be enough i.e a basic laptop would be sufficient.
But, in order to provide a Web-based self-service computer environment for a fortune 500 company with millions of customers, the following are a few points that need to be taken into consideration before jumping into any conclusions.
Since, the current project meets the above criteria, it requires significantly large infrastructure.
There are three ways to handle such load:
Keeping in mind the business aspects in mind, the best way is to distribute the load onto all the available devices. Load balancing switches can distribute the load. All requests for the Web site arrive at a machine that passes the request to one of the available systems. The main advantage of this is, even if one system is down due to an internal problem, the other devices can still very well run the website.
Also, this process is cost efficient as it does not include any purchase of infrastructure. The only setup required will be to arrange for a centralized database that keeps synchronization among the various processes.
