Question

Hi,

I am trying to create a formula, but my knowledge of excel formulas is very new! I am trying do create an excel formula which calculates the difference in video view data which I enter, comparing today to yesterday to see the growth.

My column A is dates. My column B is video data.

Is there a way Excel can work out the TODAY date's dataa and minus YESTERDAY date's data to find the growth?

My thinking is that this would look something like the following, but I'm not sure how it would be written in Excel's formua:

Where Column A is = TODAY (), conduct sum where TODAY () minus data from yesterday (TODAY () -1).

-Find TODAY ()

- FInd TODAY'S associated data

- Find YESTERDAY or TODAY -1

- FInd YESTERDAY'S associatesd data

- Minus Yesterday froms Today to find the difference.

Anyone have any ideas??

Much help would be appreciated!

Explanation / Answer

I'm not confident I understand your data setup, but making this assumption:

A B

1 Date Data

2 01/01/14 1234

3 01/02/14 1328

...

33 02/02/14 1476

34 02/03/14 1488

You could use something like! :

=VLOOKUP(TODAY(), A2:B1000, 2, FALSE) - VLOOKUP(TODAY() - 1, A2:B1000, 2, FALSE)

This works because dates in XL are stored as integer offsets from a base date (i.e., 01/01/1904 or 12/31/1899, depending on the systems used). Therefore yesterday is an integer one less than today's integers.
