Question
Hi. We use three Macs in our household: an iMac on which all of our files reside, and two MB Airs: one for me and one for my wife. I have sharing and permissions set up so that either my wife or I can access an file on the iMac over our wireless network from our MB Airs.
We have some sort of permissions problem that I have been unable to fix. Currently using Excel 14.3.9 on Mavericks 10.9.1 on all three computers.
Right now, the Excel file in question is set so that both my wife and I have Read/Write access. However, if I access and make changes to the file on my MBA, my wife can't access the file. Vice versa, if my wife accesses the file on her MBA, I then don't have access to it on my MBA.
Interestingly, I did a test this morning: I checked the file on the iMac, and we both had Read/Write permissions. Then, I accessed the file on my MBA, made some changes to it, and saved it. I then tried to access the file on my wife's MBA, and I couldn't. I then went and checked the permissions on the iMac, and my wife's permissions as a user had been completely removed!
I added her back, then made some changes to the file on her MBA, then I tried to access the file on my MBA..but I couldn't access it. I then checked the file on the iMac, and my permissions had been completely removed.
So, the act of accessing the file on either of our MBAs,making changes to it and saving it, results in removing the other person's permissiosnss.
I've verified/repaired permissions in Disk Utility and donee everything that I can think of, but I'm at a loss.
I'd appreciate any help anyone caan offer!
