Question

Hi There,

I am trying to count the number of wind speeds within certain ranges that ffall witthin directionss of certain ranges, but I keep getting zeros.

For instance I have entered:

=COUNTIFS(O3:O26307, ">67",O3:O26307,"<113",Q3:Q26307,"<1",Q3:Q26307,"=1")

to count all wind directions (O column) from 68-112 degree that are less than or equal to 1 m/s. There are some, but I get zero for all of them.

and similarly

=COUNTIFS(O3:O26307,">337",O3:O26307,"<23",Q3:Q26307,"<1.4",Q3:Q26307,">1") to count all northern winds (from 338-22 degrees) that are between 1 and 1.4 m/s.

etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Explanation / Answer

You have a logical problem in the way you set up your formulae.

By using

..., Q3:Q26307,"<1",Q3:Q26307,"=1")

you're specifying all the rows for which the value is both equal to one and not equal to (less than) one.

Try:

=COUNTIFS(O3:O26307, ">67",O3:O26307,"<113",Q3:Q26307,"<=1")

instead.

For the second formula, you could subtract the set from 23-337 degrees from the total set:

=COUNTIFS(Q3:Q26307, "<1.4", Q3:Q26307, ">1") - COUNTIFS(O3:O26307, "<338", O3:O26307, ">22", Q3:Q26307, "<1.4", Q3:Q26307, ">1")
