Question
Excel changing my formulas!
Microsoft Excel 2013 is changing my formulas, and I can't figure out how to make it stop.
This is an easy bug to reproduce. Open a new worksheet. Column A is names of students. Columns B-F are grades for parts a-e on question 1. Columns G-K are grades for parts a-e on question 2. Do this for several further question. Immediately following the raw grades, put subtotal columns for each question, so that the first the second one is =sum(G2:K2), etc. Then have a final grand total that sums the subtotals.
But, enter the formulas before entering the data. Then if I enter data using the right arrow key to move to the next cell, as soon as I enter a value in column G, the sum for the first question changes to =sum(B2:G2). If I continue to right-arrow and enter data, the range of the sum continues to increase to capture the new data I am entering! How do I make this stop????
Explanation / Answer
Try changing the Excel Options - under Advanced Editing Options, uncheck "Extend data range formats and formulas"
