Question

Auto summing by selecting certain cells

I have a spreadsheet that collects data and displays it by the minute. The data is keeping track of two items. One will last a certain time, then the other will start. I am wanting to be able to simply label the beginning and ending cells, and a formula in another cell calculates the total of all cells between them.  In cell AF14, the formula converts flow from a day rate (B14) to a minute rate. This same process continues down the column. I want to be able to input the cell number (from column AF) at the beginning of the flow into cell P3 and the ending of the flow into cell P5. Once P3 and P5 are populated, I need the formula in R3 to extract the actual flow data between the cells specified in P3 and P5, then sum the data.

Explanation / Answer

=IFERROR(SUM(INDIRECT(P3):INDIRECT(P5)),"")
