Question

Excel not launching off double click. Says "does not recognize command"

I am working on a network based license structure. Only 1 tube is currently having any issues, excel is the only Office 2007 program that is not launching off a double click. But they do open when I go to File -> Open -> Click on file

I tried:

Add/Remove Programs -> Office --> Change -> Repair (didn't work)

Excel Options -> General --> Ignore other applications that use DDE (didn't work)

I honestly don't know how to fix the issue besides re-installing Office, but I do not wish to cause the user any type of issue. I've researched into the fix and most fixes tell me that the fixes I tried is what should make it work correctly.

Double click xlsx file -> Get message "Program does not recogniize command"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Explanation / Answer

Hello

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

I'd like to ask a question before we proceed.

What do you mean by excel is the only Office 2007 program that is not launching off a double click? Do you have Excel 2007 installed along with Office/Excel 2013?

Since you're able to open the *.xlsx from within the Office application, this issue could be due to file association.

Let's try the following steps and verify the result:

1) Right click on the *.xlsx file > select Open with > choose Excel 2013 from the list > click OK.

2) If you're unable to find Excel in the list, click on More Options >Look for another app on this PC > and then select EXCEL > OK.

3) Now try opening the *.xlsx file and verify the result.

I look forward to your reply to assist you further.

Hope this help !!
