Question

excel 2013 text import delimiter doesn't delimit my fields

I want to import a text file into Excel 2013 that consists of fields delimited with a hash sign ('#'). The text import wizard seems to recognize the delimiter in some rows, and not in others. See the attached screenshot: The delimiter works in the first row, is ignored in the second row, and works in the third row again. I have tried a few text encodings (the field "file origin" in the first step of the wizard) without changing the behaviour.

How can I convince Excel to delimit the fields in all lines??

Thanks !!

Explanation / Answer

Hi..

I guess what you mean by "ignore" is that Excel skips that row.

I have no idea why it is happening to you, but I suggest you to work around by copying all (Ctrl+A) from the text file, and then directly paste in Excel, then use.

Data > Text to Columns.

hope this help !!
