Question
excel 2010 not recognising numbers
Hi,
I can see others have asked the same question, but so far I've not been able to get the answers others have used to work - probably just because I'm being daft, and I don't understand enough about excel.
I have copied and pasted numbers from a website - my HSBC statement to be precise - but they are not being recognised as numbers by excel. I can see that each number does have two extra "spaces" after it, and I believe that is the problem - if I manually go in and delete the two spaces after the number, it does then recognise the number. However, there's a lot of data, and I'm hoping there's a quicker way of doing it!
I have seen a few people suggest a find+replace solution, which involves asking excel to 'find' an empty space, and replace it with nothing, but excel tells me it 'cannot find a match' or 'cannot find the data [i'm] searching for'. I presume I'm just doing it wrong, but I can't figure out how!
Any thoughts??
Thanks!!!
Explanation / Answer
Hi..
Alternatively,
=LEFT(A2,LEN(A2)-2)*1.
to get rid of the right two characters.
